To celebrate all the incredible work of the Initiative this semester, all were invited to gather for this end-of-semester gathering. The ACEJ undergraduate fellows presented their projects, sharing their beautiful posters. These fellows worked on a range of exciting projects, from creating a new digital mapping layer with Canticle Farm in Fruitvale, Oakland, to supporting research for a Just Transition synthesis report for Richmond officials, developed with community partners, to fostering intergenerational knowledge-sharing on Japanese American incarceration and its environmental and cultural dimensions. We concluded with a student panel on sustaining decolonial work as we look forward to the coming year. Check back soon for recordings of the presentations and the panel!
The Decolonizing Environmentalism DeCal featured the Basanda Coalition and Friends of the Congo. Through film and discussion, participants learned about climate injustices within the Congo, creating space for reflection on Indigenous sovereignty, colonial legacies, and transnational climate justice.
