On May 19th, The American Cultures Center and Summer Sessions facilitated a 'Teaching in Summer' workshop for all summer sessions instructors. This session focused on effective summer course planning strategies, understanding unique summer session challenges and opportunities, policy updates, and insights on teaching racial and economic justice in diverse classrooms. Summer Sessions, Study Abroad, & Lifelong Learning

The Summer Sessions, Study Abroad & Lifelong Learning (SSALL) portal serves as an informational hub for the three programs: Summer Sessions, Study Abroad, and Lifelong Learning. SSALL can help increase course enrollment by utilizing social media platforms, such as twitter feeds, creating a class poster, and more. If interested, email Alex Cole at alexcole@berkeley.edu.

If you cannot access your grading link in CalCentral, you may not have been assigned to the correct role and access in the class schedule. Please contact your department scheduler to update the system. For all other grading concerns, email egrades@berkeley.edu or call (510) 642-5042.

Summer 2023 Course Development Grants

The American Cultures Center is delighted to introduce our Course Development Grants for summer instructors, providing up to $1,500 to support the creation of engaging summer courses. These grants are intended to fund a range of course enhancement activities, including student site visits, guest speaker honoraria, and other related expenses. The Creative Discovery Fellows Program is a way to support students using lots of different creative tools, develop multimedia platforms, websites, infographics, podcasts. The CDF Program has many resources including a toolkit that can be dropped into your bCourse site and to support student in producing creative student projects. Hypothes.is

Hypothes.is is a social annotation tool that quickly allows you to make class readings more active, visible and social. Annotation can help students with reading comprehension and developing critical thinking about course materials. UC Berkeley instructors and students can access Hypothesis via bCourses, where it is found as an external tool in assignments or modules.
